Spring

  • Windshield wipers and fluid: The harsh weather is hard on rubber and the winter may have left dirt that can damage your windshield fluid supply.
  • Tires: Check tread and air level. If the vehicle has snow tires rotate tires out to advance the life of the tires. Have your tires rotated every 5,000 to 7,500 miles.
  • Clean the Under-body: Check front and rear bumpers and signs of rust or decay.
  • Check Fluids: The winter requires vehicles to work harder thus lowering fluid amounts.

Summer

  • Cooling System: This is the most common cause of car breakdowns. Check coolant level, condition, and anti-freeze concentration.
  • Air Conditioner: Ensure that it is blowing cold air.
  • Lights: Check and replace any burned out bulbs. Clean dirt and bugs off lights regularly.
  • Brakes: Know your car. Notice if it is taking longer to stop, is pulsating, or is making grinding noises.

Fall/ Winter

  • Heater/Defroster: Check to make sure the heater/ defroster is working properly in order to ensure comfortable driving.
  • Exhaust System: Check for leaks as exposure to exhaust can be fatal.
  • Snow Tires: While not a necessity, snow tires are recommended for navigating harsh winter conditions.
